Dr. Theophilus “Theo” Acheampong is an economist, finance and political risk expert with over 15 years’ experience in academia, the extractives industry, private sector development, and public financial management in frontier emerging markets. Theo advises several global clients and undertakes country and regional-level analysis covering macroeconomics, financial markets, fiscal modelling and investment analysis, energy, environment, and trade policies in Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr Acheampong holds a PhD in economics and a master of science in energy economics and finance from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom. He earned his bachelor of science in chemical engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. He teaches financial, economic modelling, and project analysis at the University of Dundee and University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom. He is a Visiting Fellow with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), where he researches Africa’s energy transition, critical raw materials and green industrialisation. Theo has published widely on different academic, policy and media platforms. He is a regular public commentator and is quoted in several international and local media, including the BBC, Economist, France24, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Agence France-Presse, CNBC, and Al-Jazeera, among others.
