Joyce Kortlandt holds a master’s degree in biology and has extensive experience in environmental and development-related policy and advocacy in Europe, Asia, and Africa. As a Technical Secretary and Senior Advisor at the Netherlands Commission for Environmental Assessment (NCEA), Joyce advises and supports governments in the field of environmental and social assessment for mining, both at project level and at strategic level. Joyce‘s involvement has included advisory work in Burkina Faso and Guinea as well as for the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). On behalf of the NCEA and in collaboration with the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF), she recently released a report entitled ‘Strategic Environmental Assessment for the mining sector; Lessons from country case studies.
