James Wallbank is the Managing Partner of the Ibaera Capital mining private equity investment fund and has led Ibaera since its formation. Ibaera funds the development of emerging new “future facing” metals mining projects from exploration to construction. Ibaera first coined the term “future facing” in 2012 and established a fund specifically to support the discovery and development of those key metals that will underpin the world economy as it decarbonizes.
Today Ibaera holds investments across 4 continents including Africa, typically investing between US$10 and $50 million per investment, working alongside other traditional and non-traditional equity and debt. The fund aims to support emerging mining talent and project opportunities, helping to bring new critical metals supply into production.
James has over 35 years’ experience in the minerals & metals industry, the first 20 years being in major mine and metals project construction and the last 14 within investment management of mine development and construction. In total, he and his team at Ibaera have been involved in the funding, development and construction of more than $10 billion of major mining projects internationally over the last two decades.
